Jan Stewart was born on November 21st, 1952, and grew up in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She and her younger brother, Jon enjoyed summers on the beaches around their grandparents’ house in Chatham. Jan passed peacefully at her home on January 28th, 2026.

Jan spent her life in the human services field, helping people and providing care to those in need. She ran a furlough program, a home day care, served as a guardian ad litem, worked for mental health agencies with the elderly and disabled persons, and was a foster parent to many children over decades.

Jan had 3 children, Jennifer, Joshua and Jericho before moving “off Cape” and settling in North Danville, Vermont. Jan loved children and always wanted more, being a foster parent gave her that opportunity. Every child that spent time in her home became part of her heart. Two were special and became part of her family, Heidi and Sheena, along with her nephew Josiah. With a heart full of love and a spirit that shone like a beacon, Jan brought her family together, creating a sense of belonging and connection that was truly special. Her home was a haven of warmth and love, where everyone felt welcome and valued.

More than being a mom, Jan cherished being Crazy Nana. She shared her love of magic and mischief with her grandchildren on Crazy Nana days with ice cream for breakfast, mountain magic, trips to Big Rock and cereal with snuggles for dinner. During clear sky summers she enjoyed meteor showers. Winter was never her favorite, but she loved Christmas and wrote magical stories and poems each season.

She will be missed most by the friends she held as family and her children: Jennifer & Simon Fisher, Heidi Stewart & Hope Morea, Joshua Stewart, Jericho Sarai, Josiah Stewart, Sheena Stewart & Cody Allen, along with Justin Walker; her grandchildren: Korey & Doug Duprey, Fawn Marie & Seth Stevens, Charlie and Jackson Fisher, Everly Stewart and Koby Allen; great grandchildren: Aurora, Nataleigh and Julian Duprey, and her cat, Mia.

There will be no calling hours or service per Jan’s request. Jan will be laid to rest at the Pope Cemetery in the spring with a small family gathering. Condolences and memories can be shared with her family directly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the North Danville Community Club.
