Funeral services for Jan Wayland Thomas, of Gilmer, will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 29, 2026, at McWhorter Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Langley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, prior to the service.

Jan was born on October 28, 1933, to Henry Earl Thomas and Maudie Lee Hatcher Thomas and passed from this life on March 26, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

Jan proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, the United States Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard for a combined total of 30 years. He retired from Roadway as a truck driver after many years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeannie Payne, Jeff Thomas (Jamie), Happi Thomas (Tim Stanley), Carolyn Hill (Charles Barber), Chuck Davis (Debbie), and Douga Davis; sister, Earline Thomas; numerous grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Thomas; sons, Ricky Thomas and Kenny Thomas; daughter, Kathy Davis; grandsons, J. W. Thomas and Billy Stanley; great-grandson, Hayden Cole Stanley; and six siblings, James Earl Thomas, Juaquin Thomas, Juanita Fulton, Sam Thomas, Clifton Thomas, and Wallace Thomas.

Pallbearers will be Payton Stanley, Tim Stanley, Drew Hines, Jeff Thomas, Wendall Thomas, Chuck Davis, and Dennis Thomas.
