Mrs. Jan Elaine Vasil, 69, of Ellaville, passed away on January 20, 2024, peacefully at her home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at Shema Baptist Church on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bro Troy Fripp officiating. Burial will follow in Ellaville City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be A.J. Newcomb, Brion Newcomb, Chad Hoffman, Andrew Richardson, Mark Gunnoe and Dion Gunnoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Newcomb, Todd Newcomb, Marty Newcomb, Stephen Richardson, Michael Vasil and Cooper Vasil. The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville.
Mrs. Vasil was born June 1, 1954 in Warren, OH to Willard French and Eleanor Farley Gunnoe. She was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting the beach. Mrs. Vasil loved anything that was purple, antiques and was always keeping everything as clean as possible. She also enjoyed taking trips back to Ohio to visit family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Frenchie Newcomb, Dana Gunnoe and Marty Gunnoe.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Walt Vasil of Ellaville; six children, Walter Vasil of Virginia Beach, VA, Mike Vasil of Dallas, GA, Suzanne Richardson of Newnan, GA, Tim Vasil of Ellavile, GA, Eric Vasil of Americus, GA, and Stephen Vasil and his wife, Jennifer of Jackson, GA; fourteen grandchildren, Jessie Battles, Michael Vasil, Abby Richardson, Andrew Richardson, Patience Grace, Morgan Vasil, Kaitlyn Vasil, Emma Vasil, Jaxon Vasil, Zayne Vasil, Seth Vasil, Alivia Vasil, Cooper Vasil, and Addy Tate Vasil; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chet Gunnoe of Twinsboro, OH and Scooter Gunnoe and his wife, Karen of Tampa, FL; four sisters, Nancy Turner and her husband, Opie of Bristol, OH, Shirley Bierce and her husband, Paul of Bristol, OH, Mary Thomas of Champion, OH and Cindy Hillier, of Bristol, OH; a sister-in-law, Pattie Gunnoe of Garrettsville, OH; three brothers-in-law, Carl Vasil and his wife, Dawn of Ravenna, OH, Mike Vasil of Ravenna, OH and Bill Newcomb of Ellaville, GA; lifelong friends, Sharon Barber, Jill Conard, Shirley Yartch, Doreen Sutton and Debra Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
