Jan Wengaard

OBITUARY:

Jan Wengaard, a longtime resident of Hopewell Junction, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY; at the age of 85. He was born in Hønefoss, Norway on March 9, 1940, son of the late Jorgen Wengaard and Gunhild (nee Bjertnes) Wengaard. Jan proudly served in the Norwegian Army as military police, for two-years until he received discharge.

On May 2, 1964 in Jevnaker, Norway, he married Kirsten Ryen, who survives him at home.

Jan worked many years as self-employed carpenter; he was a skilled craftsman. He loved woodworking, and toying with different crafts in his workshop. He also enjoyed the outdoors, and fishing.

Along with his beloved wife of 61-years of marriage, Jan is survived by his loving daughter Siri Wengaard and her husband Stephen Frey; his three grandchildren, Karin Spinney, Steven Alos and Michael Miller. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

Along with his parents, Jan was sadly predeceased by his daughter Anita Alos on November 26, 2021. He was also predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

His Family will gather with Friends to honor and remember his Life on Saturday, December 27th from 2-4PM at the DELEHANTY FUNERAL HOME, 64 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York. Interment will be private at the discretion of his family.
