Jana E. Coon

Farnhamville – Jana E. Coon 76, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Farnhamville, with Pastor Robert Zellmer officiating. Graveside Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cedar Township Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Jana is survived by her husband Marvin; sons, Lars (Liz) Hersom of Laurens, and Clayton (John Garlick) Hersom of Palm Springs, CA; 4 grandchildren, Mark Hersom, John (Michelle) Hersom, Luke Hersom, and Seth Hersom; step-children, Roger (Linda S.) Coon, Paul (Linda J.) Coon, all of Lohrville, and Karen (Mike) Tasler, of Churdan; 7 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; her sister Helen "Sis" Wissman of Fairbanks, AK; sisters-in-law, Kay Sanders of North Pole, AK, Kathy (Darrel) Smith of Sac City, and Janice Carter of Alamagordo, NM; 2 nephews; and 1 niece; and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Loraine (Rene) Sanders; infant son; brother Mark Sanders; the father of her sons, Wilbert "Bud" Hersom; and nephew Michael Reilly. Jana Emily Sanders was born February 17, 1940 in Onawa, Iowa. The family moved to Varina, Iowa and later to Fonda. Jana graduated from Fonda High School, with the Class of 1958, and established her home in Fonda. In 1997, she was united in marriage to Marvin Coon and the couple made their home on a farm near Farnhamville. Jana was an active member in the community of Fonda, where everyone knew her, and when they had a hem to be raised, or a torn jean to be repaired, Jana was the go-to person. She was also involved with the 1970 Fonda Centennial as well as a trustee for the Presbyterian Church. The Class of 1958, could always count on a class reunion every five years where she looked forward to the next, after one just ended, as well as the Sanders family reunion, everyone knew Jana would be there. Following Jana and Marvin's retirement, they enjoyed spending winters at their home in Mesa, AZ, where she could get her small town fix while living on the farm the rest of the year.
