Jane Busi Obituary

Jane Clough Busi, 88, Plymouth elementary school teacher for many years. died Friday (March 5) at home after a long illness. She ended her life as she lived it, surrounded by several generations of her loving family. Born and raised in Plymouth, Mrs. Busi was the daughter of Charlotte (DeCost) and Edward M. Clough, owners of Clough's Market on Summer Street, where Mrs. Busi often worked during her high school years. Graduating from Plymouth High School in 1950, she earned her bachelor of education from Bridgewater State in June 1954 and wed her high school sweetheart, Ronald V. Busi, a month later. 1n September she joined the staff at Hedge School where she taught first grade for seven years. With the arrival of daughter Anne-Marie in 1961, Mrs. Busi became a stay-at-home mother to her daughter and son, Peter, who arrived in 1963. She also attended classes at Bridgewater and earned her master's degree in 1962. Returning to the classroom in 1968 she taught third grade at Cold Spring School and later became one of the first teachers at the newly opened West School in 1975. She retired from the system in 1993. During these later years of teaching, Mrs. Busi welcomed grandchildren to her home and in 1993became the guardian for grand-daughters Jennifer and Jane Busi, who cherished their 'GG' and have been devoted to her through the years. Most recently, Jane and her husband DwaineFernandes made their home with her and were her caregivers during her illness. In addition to home and school activities, Mrs. Busi was active on the Plymouth Democratic Town Committee for nearly 50 years and served as its treasurer for several years until she resigned in 2018. PDTC chair Bill Keohan has said he appreciates the assistance she gave him when he first headed up the committee. She guided him through his new responsibilities, provided him with needed information and worked with him always with 'a great sense of humor.' As a communicant of St. Peter Church, Mrs. Busi was a long-time member of St. Peter's Women's League and Catholic Charities. She volunteered in the thrift shop of the latter for many years until it closed.
