Jane Duncan Copenhaver, age 83, of Kings Mountain, NC went to her heavenly home Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Atrium Health Lincolnton.
Jane was born February 6, 1939, in Rutherford County, NC to the late William and Florence Hyder Duncan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, William Ray Copenhaver; her daughter, Debbie Lynn Hollifield; her grandson, Eddie Allen Scronce; and two brothers, Ronald M. Duncan and Max Duncan.
Jane was a graduate of Ohio School of Banking and the University of the South, School of Theology. Her eclectic schooling led to an interesting and varied career working in California, Ohio, and North Carolina. She worked at the Patterson School as a drama teacher and choir director, at the St. Francis Episcopal School as a nursery teacher and she was a layout and design editor for a travel company. Her most recent work was with KID's Etc., in Kings Mountain, where she was the drama teacher for five elementary schools. All five of the schools came together for a Christmas production, an effort that Jane called a major accomplishment. She considered our nation's greatest resource to be its' children. A title from Rogers and Hammerstein sums up her philosophy regarding children, "You have to be Carefully Taught."
Those left behind to cherish Jane's memory are two children, Cris Bailey of Marion and Debbie Dee Scronce (Eddie) of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Kirsten Bailey, Taylor Bailey, Jason Hill (Natalie), Tamarh Hill, and Adam Scronce (Haley); six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Howard B. Duncan (Lou) of Ft. Mill, SC.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am on Friday, November 25, 2022, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton, NC. A memorial service to celebrate Jane's life will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Mtr. Toni Belhu officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
