Jane E. Ferro

Jane Elizabeth Ferro, 73, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. Born in Rockford on April 23, 1950 to Walter and Hazel (Erkkila) Smithson. Jane went back to school in her 30's and finished her degrees from Rock Valley College with an Associate in Applied Science and General Business Administration. She was a believer in furthering your education. She loved to travel and visited many places such as London, Hawaii, Michigan, Florida, Minnesota, Maine and Wisconsin. She loved coffee and reading and was an avid walker. She was a wonderful mother and she taught her handicapped daughter how to ride a bike and navigate the obstacles of life that would not have been possible for her otherwise.
She is survived by her children, Natalie (Lenny) Gaziano, Jason (Celestie) Ferro, Lisa Ferro, Anita Alberts, Melinda (Mike) Thomas; grandchildren, Dominick Gaziano, Jordan Ferro, Justin Ferro, Brittany Yutzy, Nick Alberts, Alyssa Hanshew, Kassie Frazier, Isaiah Ferro and Sylycia Ferro; great-grandchildren, Janiya, Jenasis and Journee Hill, Aaliya Ferro, Anthony Hanshew and Jeremiah Hanshew; sisters, Beverly Plock and Julie Strominger Ingersoll; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Predeceased by her parents; daughter, Stacy Ferro; sisters, Betty Brock, Joyce Schmertman, Ann Bankson and Sharon Brooks; and brother, Walter Smithson, Jr.
A private graveside service will be at 3:00pm on Friday, September 22, 2023 in Willwood Burial Park, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford, IL 61102.
