Jane Horton Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 2, 2025.
Jane (Henrietta) Horton of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on November 26, 2025 at her home in the presence of her loving family.

Born on February 4, 1943, Jane was the second child of James and Henrietta Thompson. She grew up admiring her older brother Jimmy, who was several years her senior. From a young age, Jane developed a passion for music, first learning to play the piano. She later transitioned to singing, where she discovered her remarkable coloratura soprano voice. During her high school years she was very active in music and even worked for Starr Cole, the music director at Mount Pleasant. Jane also soloed in the Delaware All State Choir in 1961 singing "Listen To The Lambs". In addition to being a student of Francis Haut she also was active in church choirs at Calvary Episcopal Church, Hillcrest Methodist Church and finally Faith Church PCA. Jane was also a member of the Brandywiners Choral group.

She and her husband, Reginald, both accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior on December 3, 1978. Her walk of faith was an inspiration not only to her children and grandchildren but to those who knew her.

Jane was a licensed phlebotomist and x-ray technician. Throughout her career, she served as an office nurse and surgical assistant for six different doctors. She was committed to caring for others.

Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Ann. She is survived by her loving husband, Reginald; her daughters, Margaret Anderson (and spouse Dave), Sherri Frenck (and spouse Glenn), and Keith Horton (and spouse Shannon). Jane was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Jesse Anderson, Nate Anderson, Josh Anderson, Ben Anderson, Maisie Anderson, Christine Frenck Jones (and spouse Drew), Caitlin Frenck, Savannah Horton Griffith (and spouse Evan), and Summer Horton Damon (and spouse Parker) and a great-grandson, Carter Jones, who is expected in April 2026. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy Thompson.

Jane and Reginald enjoyed many vacations together at Ocean City, New Jersey, and cherished their time camping at Spring Gulch campground. In retirement, they spent time at their trailer at Woodlands Camping Resort in the Elk Neck State Forest, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

There will be a small private celebration of life with the immediate family. We thank everyone for their support and invite you to share your thoughts and memories of Jane at https://everloved.com/life-of/jane-henrietta-horton/.
