Jane Hyten Obituary

Jane Anne Hyten
Edwardsville - Jane Anne (McIntyre) Hyten, age 77, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Jane was born in Charleston, Illinois, on September 14, 1948, the daughter of the late Robert James and Chloe Mae (Tharp) McIntyre. She married Bill Hyten in 1968, and together they had two children before parting ways in 1977.
Jane dedicated 35 years to a fulfilling career in education. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from SIUE and a Master's in Special Education. Over the years, she taught Early Childhood, Special Education, and 1st Grade, serving students in Venice, Breese, and Colorado, and later taught a college course at Greenville University. Her compassion and creativity left a lasting mark on countless young lives.
Outside the classroom, Jane found joy in spending time with her friends and family, volunteering, traveling, and constantly reimagining her home. She loved change-whether painting a room, rearranging furniture, or simply driving around to see what was new. A lifelong animal lover, she especially adored horses. Jane was passionate about healthy living and homeopathic remedies-and firmly believed that dark chocolate qualified as an essential food group.
Above all else, her greatest loves were her children and grandchildren. Fiercely protective and endlessly loving, she was a true "Mama Bear." She inspired adventure and laughter in those around her, always ready with a game to play, a song to sing, or a project to start. Her radiant smile could light up any room, and her generosity knew no bounds-she never met a stranger and delighted in finding any excuse to give gifts or cards. Her love for Christmas was legendary, often marked by multiple trees throughout the house, including a special one for each grandchild to decorate every year.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Shelli (Bob) Ribbing of Edwardsville, IL, and their children, Julia Ribbing, Brian Ribbing, Sam Cowling, Will Cowling, Dillon Cowling, and Jessica Ribbing; and by her son, Mike (Olivia) Hyten of Broomfield, CO, and their sons, Sawyer and Charlie Hyten. She is also survived by her sister, Melissa Cater of Edwardsville, IL; and her brothers, Sam (Melinda) McIntyre of Conroe, TX, and Matt (Tammy) McIntyre of Hardin, IL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Praise Community Fellowship at Esic Worship Center in Edwardsville, with Pastor Kent Schutte officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the Worship Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., where family and friends are invited to share stories and memories of Jane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jane's memory to Brain Support Network. Condolences may be shared online at weberfuneralhome.com.

Earlier today

Jane graduated with me from EHS. She was one of my favorite classmates; always smiling, always friendly in a gentle sort of way. I´m sorry we didn´t keep in touch after HS, but it sounds like she had a wonderful life surrounded by her loving family. Rest in peace, Jane.
