Jane was born on December 8, 1939, in
Little Falls, MN, to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Noe) Osga. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Holdingford High School with the Class of 1957. In her early years, Jane worked several jobs in St. Paul, MN, including serving as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was united in marriage to Eugene Long on November 12, 1962, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Opole, MN. Together, Jane and Gene were blessed with three children: James, Joan, and Joy. Jane spent countless hours gardening and canning for her family. She passed on her knowledge and love for both of these activities, leaving her children and grandchildren with skills they will carry for generations. Jane was also a master at perfecting recipes, she would tweak and adjust until they were just right, and once perfected, that became the only acceptable way to prepare them. She loved a good game of cards and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the right way to play 500. Even as she slowed down in her later years, Jane remained the go-to resource for her family when it came to gardening tips, canning advice, or recreating one of her cherished dishes. Jane showed her love through action, ensuring her children knew how to cook, clean, and do things the right way. She believed wholeheartedly that anything worth doing was worth doing well. A perfectionist through and through, Jane instilled a strong work ethic in all those she loved, a value that will continue to guide her family for years to come.
She is survived by daughters, Joan Frerich and Joy Gardner; grandchildren, Darren Frerich, Elisa (Jake) Scherer, Jessica (Joel) Gortmaker, Rachel (Josh) Frerich, Justin (Ann) Frerich, Tyler Frerich, and Maria (Casey) Frerich; and great-grandchildren, Leland, Otto, Milo, Della and Emery.
Jane was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Eleanor Osga; husband, Gene Long; son, James Long; and son-in-law, Philip Frerich.
