Jane Macdonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2026.
Jane Macdonald, born on June 20, 1951 to Roger L. Macdonald and Cyrilla (Green) Macdonald passed away peacefully on November 22 after a brief illness. She was born in Boston and spent her early years in Medford MA before moving to Scituate MA where she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished.

A dedicated scholar, Jane earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master's degree in education, and later pursued doctoral studies at Harvard University.

Jane built a distinguished and impactful career in education. She began her work in the South Boston school system and continued to advance her educational profession through various roles in Jamaica Plain, Avon, Plymouth and the Old Rochester school systems, retiring as Assistant Superintendent of the Sandwich school system.

Throughout her life's work, Jane was committed to the well-being of her students. She created innovative programs to support their learning, spent countless hours writing grants to bridge funding gaps and consistently advocated for educational excellence and equity. Her dedication left an enduring mark on the schools and communities she served but most importantly on her students, something she was very proud of.

Jane lived life to the fullest. She was an enthusiastic reader and traveler who delighted in visiting Europe and the Caribbean many times. After retiring, she made her home first on Cape Cod and later in Juno Beach Florida where she cherished long days by the ocean, afternoons reading by the pool and the easy friendships she formed wherever she went.

Jane was deeply devoted to her sister Heather with whom she shared a lifelong bond of love and support.

Jane made friends everywhere she went, touching people with her outgoing nature and her genuine interest in others. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sharp mind, her love of adventure and the many lasting relationships she built along the way.

Jane is survived by her three brothers, George Macdonald of Dennis MA and his late wife Nadine (Geraci) Macdonald, Roger Macdonald and his wife Kathy Cross of Duxbury MA and Thomas Macdonald and his late wife Kathleen (Verfaillie) Macdonald of Westford MA. She was predeceased by her sister Heather Macdonald Pari of Duxbury MA. Jane also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
