Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. J. Duffy Funeral Home on Mar. 2, 2026.
Jane Wyatt Mayer Maroon was born on October 21, 1944, in
Albany, New York, to William T. Mayer II and Betty Noonan Mayer. From the very beginning, she was a cherished and beautiful baby girl - inheriting her mother's grace and her father's intelligent, gentle spirit. Her parents and her older sister, Marcia Mayer, were overjoyed at her arrival.
Jane grew up in Sharon, Connecticut, during the post–World War II years. She was a quiet, thoughtful child and a devoted daughter and sister. A strong and diligent student, she earned admission to Simmons College in Boston in 1962, beginning a life that would be defined by resilience, devotion to family, and quiet strength.
While attending Simmons College, Jane met her first husband, Neil Johnson, who had come to Boston from North Orange, Massachusetts.
The couple settled in Sharon, Massachusetts. In 1968, Jane welcomed her first son, William, followed by her daughter, Molly, in 1972. They made their home in a beautiful Victorian house on Highland Street, before Jane and Neil divorced in 1976.
With remarkable determination, Jane embraced the responsibilities of single motherhood. She worked as a restaurant hostess to provide for her children, meeting life's challenges with quiet dignity and perseverance.
A few years later, she met her second husband, Guy Maroon of Brockton. They married and, in 1981, welcomed Jane's third child, Thomas Maroon. Although this marriage did not endure, Jane once again demonstrated strength and resilience as she continued raising her three children.
Determined to build a stable future for her family, Jane entered the banking industry. Through hard work and natural leadership, she rose from teller to assistant manager and eventually to branch manager of Sharon Credit Union in Sharon, Massachusetts. She treasured seeing familiar faces, watching families grow, and helping customers navigate life's milestones with kindness and care.
In 1990, Jane met Jeannette Jones, who would become her life partner and constant companion. In 2000, Jane and Jan purchased a home on Pound Road in Cumberland, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful traditions. Over 26 years together, they enjoyed trips to Key West, family holidays, and countless quiet moments that defined a true partnership. In Jane's later years, as her health declined, Jan cared for her with unwavering devotion - a love that was steady, tender, and profound.
Jane was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow. She also had a lifelong love for dogs and cats, whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life. This enduring love for animals remained an important part of her life and legacy.
Jane was a steady presence in our lives - a loving mother, devoted partner, grandmother, and friend. We are profoundly grateful for the years we shared with her. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered always with love.
There will be no formal services at this time. A celebration of Jane's life will be scheduled at a later date for family and friends to gather and honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's memory to the
ASPCA.
