Jane Elizabeth Putkela

Jane Elizabeth (Aho) Putkela, age 85, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away on September 25, 2025. She was born on September 24, 1939, to Frank and Elizabeth (Tiura) Aho in Trout Creek, Michigan. Jane spent her early life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Trout Creek, Greenland, and Trimountain.

On July 15, 1961, she married David Putkela, and they shared 62 years of marriage before his passing in January 2024.

Jane was a deeply devoted family person, known for her incredible loyalty to her children and the whole family. She had a wonderful smile and a great laugh that could instantly light up a room. Jane was an amazing cook, especially when it came to making her pasties. She also loved to fish, garden, and travel, and you could often find her enjoying her favorite soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Aho; her husband, David Henry Putkela; and her siblings, John Aho, Francis Aho, Shirley Niemi, Arlene Larson, Sally Aho, and Verna Aho.

Jane is survived by her two children, Barbara Jean (Putkela) Falcon of Argentina, and Michael David Putkela of Hastings; her son-in-law, Juan Falcon; and her grandsons, Joshua David Falcon and Jeremy Michael Falcon. She also leaves behind her sisters, Dolores Davis, Dorothy Kinnunen, and Evelyn McClung, and her brother, Carl Aho.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Girrbach Funeral Home, 328 S Broadway; Hastings, MI 49058 with a luncheon directly to follow at the funeral home.
