The Obituary of Jane B. Ridgeway

Jane passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at her home on Salem Church Road. She was born in Ocilla, Ga on February 6, 1938. She was the first child of Zelda Tucker Buckman and John Hamilton Buckman, Jr. The family moved to Oglethorpe County when Jane was two.

Jane married Charles E. Hogan in 1955 at Salem Baptist Church. Charles was in the US Army. They were stationed overseas and stateside at many military facilities. Charles died in military service in 1964, leaving Jane a widow at the age of 26 with two small boys, Charles and Sim.

Jane remarried in 1971 to Dr. Ted Ridgeway. Dr. Ridgeway, a veterinarian and military veteran, joined Jane with two boys of his own, Mike and Kelly, creating a blended family. Her family was her pride and joy. Jane loved everyone she encountered in life and they loved her. 

Jane had a working career that included being a restaurant owner, apartment manager, and manager of employment opportunities for underprivileged individuals in the states of Georgia and California. Jane loved to travel, taking every opportunity to see the world.

She is survived by: her brother, John H. Buckman III, brother-in-law Walter Dudley, sister-in-law Rosemary Taylor, four children, Charles B. Hogan (Carol), Michael Ridgeway (Sheila), Kelly Ridgeway, and Sim E. Hogan (Vickie), 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, mother and father-in-law Jonnie and Sim Ed. Hogan, sister Judy Dudley, sister-in-law Sue Ellen Buckman, first husband Capt. Charles E. Hogan, second husband Dr. Ted R. Ridgeway, and daughter-in-law Denise Ridgeway.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:30 am at Lord and Stephens, East. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 am.
