Jane A. Schmidt of Naples Fl, passed away on January 29, 2023. Jane was born in Elmer N.J. November 6,1927 to parents Franklin and Linda Bishop, the youngest of four with three siblings: Clayton, Martha and Eleanor who have all predeceased her. After graduating high school, where she attended every dance and was a cheerleader, she attended an airline school in Kansas City, Mo. This was shortly after the end of WWII. The airlines were growing and hiring. Jane and a classmate were hired by Northwest Airlines as teletype operators to work at La Guardia airport in N.Y. She was also trained as a radio operator where they relayed weather, position reports etc. from flights to air traffic control (ATC). Today pilots talk direct to ATC. Jane, at age 19, was the youngest radio operator in the country. After working for the airlines, she went to work at the New York Stock Exchange typing the ticker tape. The hours were a dream after working shift work for the airline. She met the love of her life, Gene Schmidt, working for NWA as a young mechanic. His dream and goal was to become a pilot. He was drafted into the army in 1953 and stationed in Hawaii. They were married on Oahu in 1954.
They returned to NY in 1955. Gene became a flight engineer, pilot, instructor pilot and flew out his career as a Captain on the 747. They lived in Minneapolis and in April 1960 the joy of their lives Bradley was born. In 1979 they bought in Naples and in 1996 moved here full time. Members of Wyndemere Country Club and Moorings Presbyterian Church where Jane had been a Deacon, Elder, choir member and volunteering receptionist. Gene passed away June 2012. Jane is survived by son Brad, daughter in law Kathy and granddaughter Brecklyn and several nieces and nephews
