Jane Ellen "Janie" Smith

Mrs. Jane "Janie" Ellen (McRoberts) Smith, age 70, of Cross Plains, Indiana, entered this life on August 23, 1955 in Washington, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Burl Gordon and Maudie (Jones) McRoberts. She was raised in Daviess County, Indiana and was a 1973 graduate of Odon High School. Janie was united in marriage on August 23, 1985 to Glenn James Smith at the Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Pleasant, Indiana. Janie received her associate's degrees in data processing and data management from Ivy Tech Community College in Madison, Indiana. She was employed for Benham Industries in Madison, Indiana for several years. She was later employed for a contractor at North American Stainless for a few years. Janie was also employed as a manager for Hook's Drug Store and CVS in Madison, Indiana for several years. She later volunteered for Elston's Community Meats in Switzerland County for over a year. She was a member of The WELL Community Church in Cross Plains, Indiana. Janie enjoyed mushroom hunting and took great pride in mowing her grass, tending to her flowers, and picking berries on the farm. She dearly loved her dogs and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Some of her favorite memories were made vacationing with her sisters, and she especially enjoyed going out west. Janie also worked alongside her husband on the family farm, assisting in the harvesting of produce for sale at area farmers' markets. Janie passed away at 5:20 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Jane will be missed by her husband of over 40 years, Glenn James Smith of Cross Plains, IN; her sons and daughter, Michael Evans and his wife, Michelle of Cross Plains, IN, Amy Wagner and her husband, Nate of Westfield, IN, and John Smith and his wife, Mary of Bloomington, IN; her grandchildren, Annabell Evans, Emily Yowler and her husband, Brandon, Kora Ferguson, Ivan Wagner, Miles Wagner, Adelyn Smith, and Juna Wagner; her great-grandchildren, Amelia Hankins, Lillian Hankins, Layton Yowler, and Kamden Yowler; her siblings, Debbie Kavanaugh and her husband, Roger of Versailles, IN, Gordon McRoberts and his wife, Pat of St. Charles, MO, Patricia Gingerich and her husband, Jake of Montgomery, IN, and Barbara Hinkle and her husband, Larry of Washington, IN; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faith Ann and Ralph Wood of Versailles, IN; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Burl Gordon McRoberts, died December 8, 2019; and her mother, Maudie (Jones) McRoberts, died February 23, 2020.
Janie's wishes were to be cremated with no formal services being held at this time.
