Jane Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborne Funeral Home, PA - Williamsport on Apr. 17, 2025.
Jane Theresa Wright, born May 15, 1935, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Athol, Massachusetts, Jane was the youngest of seven children of Lithuanian immigrants John and Margaret Jouconis. She grew up in a lively household alongside her siblings Vincent, Mary, Victoria (Nellie), Adele, Tina, and her identical twin sister, Rita - who survives her as the last of their generation.
As a child, Jane was a spirited baton twirler andJ candy striper, early signs of the energy and generosity that would define her life. After graduating from Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts, she moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the Peace Corps during its formative years.
It was in DC that she met and married Leo Bassett (1934–2023), with whom she raised her three children: Maria Theresa (1964–1979), Leo Joseph Jr., and Victoria. The family settled in Potomac, Maryland, where Jane worked for NOAA and created a home filled with laughter and love.
Later, she returned to Massachusetts to work for the U.S. Air Force before retiring to Truckee, California. There, she embraced a life of travel and RV camping, and volunteered at the local hospital - a reflection of her lifelong commitment to helping others.
In 2007, Jane returned to Maryland and became a cherished member of the Homewood retirement community, where she made countless friends and volunteered in many community projects. Jane had the gift of gab and used it to build friendships wherever she went. She delighted in striking up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and hearing their stories as well as sharing her own.
Jane was resilient, generous, and deeply caring. She was always on the go, punctual, organized, and took pride in presenting herself with polish and style. She had a heart of gold, a spirit of service, and a tireless dedication to the people and communities around her.
She is survived by her children, Leo Joseph Bassett Jr. (Karyn) and Victoria (Ken), her grandchildren Eric and Caroline, and her twin sister Rita. She is also fondly remembered by Rita's children - Sue, Carol, Bob, and Tony (1965–2009) - and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Jane's legacy of kindness, strength, and joy will live on in all who knew and loved her.
