Jane Yang, beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, teacher, and Buddhist practitioner, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 76.
Jane was born to Peng Yu-Chung and Wang Kuei-Mey on Oct. 17, 1948, in Chungli, Taiwan. As the second eldest sibling, she helped take care of her brothers and sister while growing up. Her brothers Michael, Steven, and David live in the US, while her other brothers Guo Shu and Guo Qing and sister Chize-Xing still live in Taiwan.
Jane spent most of her life as an educator. She was a passionate teacher and enjoyed working with students. While in Taiwan, she was a junior high math teacher. After moving to the United States, she worked with the Santa Clara Unified School District (K-12) as a Language Development Assistant. In this role, she worked with students who came from other countries in multiple facets, such as ESL (English as a second language), assessments, placements, tutoring, and counseling. She also taught Mandarin Chinese at Silicon Valley Chinese School for many years.
Jane married Thomas Yang on Nov. 2, 1972. She gave up her math teaching career to start Yang's Family Pharmacy and raise a family of 4. The family moved to the US in 1982. They spent some time in Denver, Colorado, before settling in Cupertino, California in 1985, where she has lived ever since.
Jane's love for her family was her greatest legacy. The love Jane gave was unconditional. Never selfish, she was always caring and supportive. She gave up her Math teaching career to start and raise a family. Jane taught the importance of family values, respect, and unity. Jane would drive Thomas to the Caltrain station before 6am everyday so he can commute to South San Francisco to work at Genentech. While supporting her husband in every way, Jane was also her son Tony and daughter Annie's #1 tennis fan. Jane's favorite saying to the family when things got tough was "who lasts longer is the winner."
In her spare time, she was active in the Hakka Association, participating with her friends in activities such as line dance, traveling, camping, making mochi and pao tsai (pickled vegetables) for potluck, and performing in the Annual Chinese New Year celebration.
With her beloved Doberman lab mix dog, Kudo, Jane has retired to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, where they line dance, play tennis, enjoy ping pong, and play fetch every single day! With her dangerous drop shots, Jane is driving her fellow residents crazy in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss!
She is survived by her husband Thomas Yang, son Tony Yang, daughter Annie Yang Khammaly, son-in-law Aphidet Khammaly, grandkids Caiya Khammaly and Ryan Khammaly, as well as her 5 brothers and 1 sister.
The family kindly requests that, instead of sending flowers, memorial donations be made to Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale in honor of Jane Yang (Chinese name:
