Janet A. Alfano

Janet Alfano, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27th, 2023. Janet was born on April 23rd, 1938 to Grace (Claps) and Domenick Penzine. She was the beloved wife of Peter F. Alfano for 61 years until his passing on August 9th, 2020. Throughout their marriage they loved to mark milestone birthdays and anniversaries by taking amazing trips together. Many weekends would be filled with spontaneous getaways to the Jersey Shore and Mystic, CT "just because".
Janet developed friendships that would last the entirety of her life while attending St. Gabriels High School then working for Neptune Moving Company and Schaffer Grocery. Most recently she was employed at Garito Manor, where so many of the residents and staff also became dear friends.
Janet's favorite hobby was baking. Holidays and celebrations were never complete without her baked goods. She was best known for her Easter breads and custom krispie treats. Janet never missed an opportunity to wish the special people in her life happiness and blessings on their birthdays with her famous birthday bear.
Janet was most definitely a people person and will be missed by so many who found her sense of humor and smile contagious.
Janet is survived by her children Maria & Stephen Garito and Peter & Marilyn Alfano. She will be lovingly remembered by her 12 grandchildren Stephanie & RJ Richards, Leanna & Eddie Stokes, Sam & Stephanie Garito, Peter & Dara Alfano, Michael & Erica Alfano, Steven & Ariana Alfano. Janet was blessed with nine great grandchildren Mia, Emma, Leo, Robert, Vincent, Lorenzo, Stefano, Carmella, and Peter. She is also survived by her brother Leo Penzine and sister Carolyn Calo. She was predeceased by sister Marie Martinson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital where Janet's great grandson Leo is being treated.
