Janet Sue (Armitage) McVicker, 82, passed away surrounded by love and family on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was a true angel on earth and now in heaven.

Janet was born on July 11, 1943, in Corry, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Victor and Ethel (Swart) Armitage. She was raised on their family dairy farm in Spring Creek, where she shared many memories of all the shenanigans on Oil Creek Rd. She developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and community. She graduated from Corry High School in 1961 and went on to complete her nursing degree at Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Janet dedicated her life to caring for others with compassion and kindness. She later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she raised her family and built a warm and welcoming home. She was involved in the community and enjoyed tennis, as well as entertaining friends and family, and creating lasting memories with those she loved.

Janet had many interests in life, including building a magnificent home on the Gulf of Mexico; she owned and operated a retirement home (The Homestead) and wrote pithy poems to celebrate family members.

She eventually retired to New Port Richey, Florida, where she was active in her church and built many new friendships. Janet still maintained a home in Illinois so she could be close to her family, especially her three grandchildren, who adored their "Grammy." In addition, she was fortunate to live brief periods in Utah, Kentucky, and the Philippines. During her time in Manila, she was able to travel to many exotic locations.

Janet carried herself with dignity and grace. She always saw the best in people and cared deeply for others. She was a peacemaker who put everyone ahead of herself.

Janet is survived by her two children, son, Robert of Chicago, IL, and daughter, Susan Collins (Chris) of North Barrington, IL; three grandchildren, Sydney, Chloe, and Kyle Collins; sisters, Sandy Cobb and Linda Conn, and sister-in-law Kathy Blankenship; brother-in-law, Jay Blankenship and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Jean Armitage, George and Sandra Armitage; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Dave Johnson; brothers-in-law, Max Cobb and Lawrence Conn; mother-in-law and fathers-in-law, Margaret Mitton, Vernon Mitton and Robert McVicker; nieces, Jackie Loveless, Lorelei and Lucy Armitage and nephew, Gregory Armitage.

Janet was more than just a mother and Grammy; she was our greatest supporter and our safe place to land.
