Janet Brage Obituary
Funeral mass will be 10:30am, Monday, December 29, 2025 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown, SD.
Visitation will be 2-5pm, Sunday, December 28, 2025, with the rosary starting at 2:00pm, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Jerry Smith, Jim Smith, Duane Smith, Roger Smith, David Smith, Steven Smith and Greg Brage.
Janet Colleen Brage was born on November 17, 1966 in Watertown, South Dakota to Fred N. and Mary Joyce (Vermeulen) Smith. She grew up on a farm near Hazel, South Dakota and attended Hazel Grade School and then graduated from Hayti (Hamlin) High School. She attended South Dakota State University where she received her bachelor's degree.
Janet and Doug J. Brage were married on July 10, 1993 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. The couple was blessed with three children, Brianna, Ashley and Bryce.
Janet was employed as a speech/language pathologist at the Parkston School, Northeast Educational Services Cooperative and Watertown School District.
Janet loved being with her family and friends, participating in her Prayer Group, Youth Group, Bible study and Hospital Ministry. She also enjoyed walking and photographing nature, and her loyal dog, Gus. She had a special place in her heart for helping others, especially children. Her deep love for God was made evident through a life of service, as she led others toward Him and reflected His love in all she did.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Doug; her devoted children, Brianna Brage of Watertown, SD, Ashley Brage of Muskegon, MI and Bryce Brage of Pierre, SD; her siblings, Jerry (Gail) of Morrison, CO, Sharon Trautner of Watertown, SD, Jim (Lorie) Smith of Hazel, SD, Duane (Leah) Smith of Watertown, SD, Julie Lee of Sioux Falls, SD, Roger (Bonnie) Smith of Hazel, SD David (Tina) Smith of Browns Valley, SD, and Steven (Renae) Smith of Watertown, SD; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
She joins her parents, Fred and Joyce Smith; and brother-in-law, Tony Trautner in Heaven.
