Janet Bylund Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 8, 2011.
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister Janet Kristina (Tanner) Bylund of Orem, UT, passed away on December 8, 2011. She was born in Salt Lake City, UT, on June 29, 1932, to the late Hyrum and Sara (Erickson) Tanner. She attended high school in Boise, ID, where she participated in orchestra and drama. She attended three years at BYU, where she was a member of the Kia Ora Club, a Maori dancing group. She married Sterling Bylund on September 24, 1954, and they raised five children together. Janet loved music, acting, poetry, storytelling, and hiking. She played the violin for the Utah Valley Symphony for many years, performed in local plays, and most recently joined the Timpanogos Storytelling Club. She wrote poetry, created a one-act play, and composed music. She was always ready for a new adventure and relished the countless hours spent exploring the canyons of Southern Utah with her husband, family, and friends. Janet was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities. She especially enjoyed her time as Primary chorister, and most recently served as chorister for the Relief Society. She and Sterling devoted a year at the John Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio, serving a Church mission. Janet was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Sterling Bylund; her children, Alan (Tessie), Glen (Judy), Annette VonBargen (Duane), Brent (Julie), and Gary (Teri); and 14 grandchildren: Sarah, Aaron, Cory, Eric, Kiri, Kalie, Emily, Melissa, Geoffrey, Erica, Katie, Emmy, Lilly, and Ben. She is also survived by her sisters, Rose (John) Anderson and Betty (Kenneth) Farley, and her brother, Aksel (Donna) Tanner. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sharon 1st Ward building, 641 S. 400 E., Orem, UT. Viewings will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N., Orem, and on December 17, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Sharon 1st Ward building (see address above).
