Janet Mae Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. She was 93 years old.
She was born on April 13, 1931 to Ole and Viola (Schultz) Steinmeyer. Janet was a beacon of light and was loved by all who knew her. Her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many throughout her lifetime.
She was born and raised in the Weston WI area. Graduated from Aggie High School in Menomonie WI.
Janet married George Suckow and had 4 sons, they eventually divorced.
Later marrying Melvin Carter adding 3 more children to the family, Janet and Melvin started the VFW post 10424 in 1975. She was the auxiliary president for almost 40 years and Melvin was the commander of the VFW up until his passing in 1980.
In the early 1990s Janet reconnected with the love of her life, Floyd Snyder. They spent over 20 years together, where they enjoyed making many memories while camping in Birchwood WI, and many trips to Lambeau Field to enjoy her beloved Green Bay Packers. They worked together as caretakers at Tantara Apartments for many years until Floyds passing in 2011.
Janet is survived by her children; James of Spooner, Daniel(Patricia) of Menomonie, Annette(Paul) of Barron, Yvonne(Steve) of Wheeler, Melvin Jr.(Susan) of Wheeler. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many more relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Viola; her brother Paul; sister Betty; two sons William and Norman.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville WI with Pastor Judy Kincaid officiating. There will be a visitation on Monday October 28, 2024 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Olson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in the Township of Menomonie, Dunn County.
