Janet Ellen Phoebe Coates, 83, of Tuckerton, NJ passed away at home on Wednesday August 13, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Camden, NJ, Janet spent time living in Beach Haven, NJ and Barnegat, NJ before moving to Tuckerton 6 years ago. Janet worked as a school bus driver for Barnegat Township and was a prior member of Cedar Run Assembly of God in West Creek, NJ. She enjoyed playing cards, and was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister.
Janet was predeceased by her parents William and Phoebe Coates, daughter Judy E. Johnson, and brothers William H. Coates, and Edward “Jim” Coates.
She is survived by her sons John “Jackie” E. Johnson Jr and wife Marie “Mimi” of Manahawkin, NJ, and Jerry E. Johnson and wife Jessica of Tuckerton and step-daughter Donna Lynn of GA. Also surviving are her sister ShirleyMae Beron of Lake Wales, FL, grandchildren David, Lauren, Elizabeth, Judy, Brandon, Ashley, April, Breanna, Jerry Jr. and 13 great grandchildren. She was also a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 19,2025 from 5-8pm at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd, Little Egg Harbor, NJ, 08087. Cremation and burial of ashes will be private.
The family has requested that guests arrive in casual attire. Please come as you are.
