Janet Scherer Cox

Janet Scherer Cox, 78, was called home to God on. October 15, 2025, in Rome, Georgia. Born on October 18, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, she lived a life enriched by education, travel and deep connections with family and friends. Janet began her education in Decatur, Georgia, attending local elementary schools before graduating from West Rome High School in 1965. She continued her academic journey at Wesleyan College in Macon and later Shorter College in Rome.

A passionate traveler, Janet found joy and inspiration exploring the globe. Italy held a special place in her heart - Florence was her favorite city, there she formed lasting friendship with locals whom she visited often and kept in close contact with over the years. Her travels extended across Europe, Asia, the Pacific Islands and Australia with Japan ranking as her second favorite destination. Yet it was Hawaii that brought her the deepest sense of peace, especially the serene beauty of Hana and Lahaina on Maui. The devastating fire that swept through Lahaina in 2023 deeply affected her; she mourned the loss of a place that had given her so much tranquility.

She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Lynn Scherer and Andrea Scherer Culbreth (Danny); nieces Katy and Ashley; nephew Till; many great-nephews; a great niece; and a great grand niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S Cox; her parents, Robert Scherer and Ernestine (Williams) Scherer; and a brother, Mark Scherer..

Janet's special lifelong friends are Judi Burns Borgo, Jackie Lupo and Oliver, the Maltipoo. Her warmth, spirit and devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Janet's family will gather privately at a later date in her honor.
