Janet (Smurl) Dilworth, born Janet Dmohoski, was born June 4, 1947, in Peckville to Frank and Gloria (Mako) Dmohoski. She passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026.
She was a 1965 graduate of Northeast High School in Duryea, where she enjoyed being a majorette in the High School band. She spent her summers working in Atlantic City, where she loved to swim at the beach and enjoyed live music and dancing. Later in life, she would pass on her love of nature, swimming, and music to her children and grandchildren.
Janet was very active in her community and church. She was a member and President of the women's Lions Club in West Pittston, where she always made it a priority to make sure children in the community received toys at Christmas.
She attended Holy Rosary church on Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, where she taught CCD classes and loved working at the annual bazaar. She attended St. Leo's in Ashley after the closing of her Parish, and after moving, she attended St. Basil's in Dushore.
Janet married John James "Jack" Smurl on Dec. 28, 1968, and they were married for almost 50 years until John passed away in 2017. Together they lived in West Pittston and Wilkes-Barre. They had four daughters, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. They tried to attend every event or activity their children and grandchildren participated in, as their support was endless. They were involved in the PTO, PTA, sports booster clubs, and coaching. They also loved history, camping, and traveling.
After all of her children graduated from high school, Janet worked as a pharmacy technician for more than 20 years with Rite Aid Pharmacy in Wilkes-Barre.
Janet married Charles Albert Dilworth on April 10, 2021, and they were separated only by her passing. They met at church and were so blessed to both have a "second time around." Together, they enjoyed traveling, history, trips, and activities with their families and friends. They went everywhere from Florida to Paris and everywhere in between. Their adventures were endless and brought her true happiness. They were truly blessed to have found each other later in life and have had so many good times. Their love was truly a match made in heaven.
She loved history, and one of her favorite places to visit was Gettysburg. She learned something new every time she went and had a passion for passing on her knowledge of history to her family and friends.
Janet had many other interests and passions such as cooking, gardening, shopping with her daughters, playing cards, reading, movies and tours. Her passion for trying and learning new things was contagious. She was always down for anything because as she said, "life is a journey".
She was an amazing spouse, mother, grandmother and neighbor. From providing a meal or a ride to helping with schoolwork and party planning, the care and love she provided to those around her was selfless. She was a mother to all. She didn't care if they were her own children, friends of her daughters, or the children in the neighborhood. Janet made sure all of the kids were safe, fed, and cared for.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gloria (Mako) Dmohoski; grandparents, Edward and Jeanette Mako; sister, Deborah Moughan; spouse, John "Jack" Smurl; and infant grandson, Michael John Glowinski.
Janet is survived by her spouse, Albert Dilworth; daughter, Dawn Marie Glowinski; daughter, Heather Engle (spouse Chad Engle); daughter, Shannon Pietroski (spouse Edward Pietroski); daughter, Carin Williams (spouse Neal Williams); brother, Dennis Dmohoski (spouse Lisa Dmohoski); grandchildren, Mark Glowinski, Zachary Gonzalez, Jarod Engle, Gillian Sokoloski, Emily Engle, and Andzia Pietroski; great-grandchildren Cora, Sloan, Zakari, and Elle; Christopher Moughan and family (nephew), Jennifer Murphy and family (niece), Gregory and Brad Dmohoski (nephews), Sharon Yanovitch (niece), Michael Yanovitch and family (nephew), Patrick Yanovitch and family (nephew), William (Bill) Yanovitch & family (nephew), and numerous cousins.

Carin, Heather, Dawn and Shannon, I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words to help comfort loved ones in this time of grief and sorrow. It is like no other and different for everyone that she touched.
I know in the little time I got to know her and be with her, she made a big impression on me. I will always remember the time spent on our adventures, especially going to Rhode Island, Martha's Vineyard, and the trolley.
Prayers of comfort and healing are being sent for all of you.
