Janet Ellen Jones Esmail passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at Ohio Living Cape May. She was born August 11, 1933, to Karl Frank and Madge Collins Jones in Newark, Ohio, and grew up in Alexandria, Ohio. After graduating from Alexandria High School, she studied at Wilmington College, receiving her Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1956. She married Jalal "Jack" Esmail, and together they raised 4 children.
Janet worked for years at the Wilmington Public Library as the children's librarian, bringing the joy of reading and stories to hundreds of children in Clinton County. Janet attended the Wilmington Friends Meeting (Quaker Church). Janet loved the natural world and passed that love along by supporting organizations focused on nature as well as ones that promoted peace.
Janet is preceded in death by her elder sister, Norma Starbuck, her husband, Jack, and grandson, William James Long. She is survived by her brother, John Jones of Sunbury, Ohio, and children, Dr. James Jalal (Lynn) Esmail, Matthew (Kim) Esmail, Jennifer (William) Morrison, and David (Robyn) Esmail. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Noah and Nathan Esmail, Nick (Lise-Ann) Robinson, Michelle (Tyler) Cory, and Seth and Megan Morrison, as well as great-grandchildren, Madison, Landen, Tobin, Trenton, and Penelope.
A memorial service honoring Janet is scheduled at 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday.
