Janet Feltman – July 7, 1956 – February 19, 2025
Janet Lynn Feltman, age 68, died peacefully at her home in Little Ferry, New Jersey on February 19, 2025. Janet was born in Englewood, New Jersey to Alvin and Judith Feltman.
Janet was born with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and overcame many challenges to lead a rewarding and fulfilling life. For nearly her entire adult life Janet was involved with the ARC of Bergen and Passaic, which provided her with the opportunity to develop her independence and to work in settings that were able to support her growth. Initially residing in group homes, through her hard work and determination she progressed to living in her own apartment for the past 10 years. Living independently was Janet's proudest achievement, one that capped her lifetime journey of continuous growth and progress. For most of her adult life, Janet also worked productively in supportive settings, most recently at North Jersey Friendship House.
Janet was best known for her fierce independence, feisty spirit and loving nature. She enjoyed shopping (especially for new purses), dancing, playing bingo, going out for ice cream, and meeting up with her boyfriend David and her best friend Lynn. She also enjoyed a variety of of social activities sponsored by the ARC and Friendship House, as well as frequent meals and celebrations with family.
Janet is survived by her brothers Allen Feltman (and his wife Susan), Paul Feltman (and his wife Martha), as well as her nieces Amy and Laura and her nephew Aaron and his wife Caroline, She brought joy and happiness to all of those around her and she will be missed greatly by her family, friends, caregivers and all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the ARC of Bergen and Passaic in Janet's memory.
