JANET MARY HAUGEN, age 74, of Worthington, MN, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 2, 2023. She was born March 28, 1948, in Worthington, MN, to Arvid and Florence (Langseth) Nystrom. Janet was a graduate of Worthington High School, Class of 1966, and later went on to Mankato State University in 1971, where she graduated with a BS degree in education. Later in life, she decided to continue her education by attending nursing classes.
Janet married Donald R. Haugen of Reeder, ND, on June 30, 1979, in Worthington, MN, at Indian Lake Baptist Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Reeder, ND, before moving back to Worthington, MN, in 1985.
She began her career as a teacher, and worked a few years at Campbell's Soup Co. However, Janet spent the majority of her adult life as a loving caregiver. Janet's passions included spending time with family and friends, gardening, canning, traveling, country music, and a love for Elvis Presley. She spent time in the creative arts; painting, sewing, and free verse poetry. She played clarinet in high school and piano throughout her life.
Janet's volunteer work in the community included many roles within the local Lion's Club, and she treasured her time as a Reading Grandma in Worthington.
Janet was baptized at Indian Lake Baptist Church. After she was married, she decided to become a Lutheran. In her youth, she spent many summers at Big Trout Lake Baptist Bible Camp. As a teenager, she volunteered at the Baptist Bible Camp on the kitchen staff, and as an adult, she taught Sunday school to 6th graders at American Lutheran Church.
Janet had the biggest and kindest heart, and she will live on through our memories and all the lives that she encountered.
Janet is survived by her husband, Donald Haugen; two daughters, Renee (Haugen) Hecker, Dallas, TX, and Shannon Froehlich, Mankato, MN; Grandchildren, Cole Froehlich and Kiera Froehlich; Sister, Karen Wasmund (Worthington, MN); Brother, Dale Nystrom (Sioux Center, IA); Sister-in-law, Sonja Haugen (Trimont, MN); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that feel like family.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Arvid and Florence (Langseth) Nystrom; and Brother, Marvin Nystrom; Grandparents, Peter and Sigrid (Erickson) Nystrom; and Oscar and Mary (Haggard) Langseth.
The visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm on February 10th Dingmann Funeral Home 1545 N. McMillan Worthington, MN 56187.
The funeral service will be 1:00pm on February 11th American Lutheran Church
915 Winifred St. Worthington, MN 56187.
Officiated by Pastor Jeremy Hallquist.
It will be followed by refreshments and fellowship in remembrance of Janet's life.
