Janet Iona Hoppes

Janet Iona (Martin) Porter Hoppes, 90, of Pendleton, Indiana, passed away November 2, 2017. She was born on March 13, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio and was a Pendleton resident since 1970. Janet retired from the Indiana State Reformatory in 1995 following 24 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Pendleton Christian Church where she served as an Elder. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Pendleton Chapter 138 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a past president of the Pendleton Garden Club and member of Mendon Home Extension Club. Survivors include son, Randy Porter of Barstow, California, daughter, Penny Porter (husband, Mike) Mattson of Salina, Kansas; stepson, Mark Allen (wife, Yong Ye) Hoppes of Indianapolis, Indiana; stepdaughter, Jorjean King of Budd Lake, New Jersey; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Monroe and Mary Priscilla (Clark) Martin; husbands, Thurman Porter and Robert G. Hoppes; daughter-in-law, Susan Porter; and brothers, Carl Walter Martin and Fred Martin, Jr. Services at 4 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064 beginning with Order of the Eastern Star Memorial followed by Reverend Michael Canada officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017 at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, 6805 Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd, Anderson, Indiana 46013. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday at Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Memorial contributions may be made to Pendleton Christian Church, 1170 S. Pendleton Ave., Pendleton, Indiana 46064.
