Janet Gay “Jan” Johnson Cook, 90, retired secretary for Fleming Sheet Metal, died Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
The family will visit with friends Monday, March 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, March 17, 2025 at 2:30 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Ben Bayless officiating.
The family suggest memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Online condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
She was born on January 9, 1935 in Glasgow, MT to the late Gordon Lester Johnson and the late Ethel Louise Curry Johnson. On April 20, 1957 she married the love of her life, James Allison “Jim” Cook Jr. Together they shared 66 wonderful years together until his death on January 9, 2024. Jan was an avid sports fan, and loved the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves, and the Tennessee Titans. Most of all she will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her children; Allison Speed of Columbia, Shelley Fautt of Columbia, Dickie (Becky) Cook of Spring Hill, Michael “Mike” (Lori) Cook of Columbia, Jill Gordon of Columbia, David (Heather) Cook of Columbia, Kristen Cook of Columbia, Karen (Steve) Clark; fifteen grandchildren; Adam (Ali) Cook, Lauren (Zach) Walker, Shelby (Caleb) Powell, Jackson Cook, Taylor Gordon (fiancé, Forrest Eagle), Cameron Gordon, Anna Cook, Jamie Cook, Sam Cook, Connor Cook, Kayla Gordon, Lexi Patterson, Lucas Patterson, Ryan Clark (fiancée, Brilee Norman) and Brady Clark; many great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Johnson; sisters, Bonnie Moyer and Beverly Wieber; and special friends, Sheila Alexander, Sandy Houston, Linda Moore, and Jan Harmon.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Cook; daughter, Leslie Suzanne Patterson; brother, Larry Johnson; sister, Lorna Johnson; and special friend, Kay Tillman.
Pallbearers will be Adam Cook, Sam Cook, Jackson Cook, Cameron Gordon, Ryan Clark, Brady Clark, Connor Cook and Steve Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Bayless, Monte Bayless, and Wally Tillman.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Melanie, Antonio, Patricia, Kiela and the staff of Compassus Hospice, Emergency Medical Team, Maury Regional Medical Center, The Cancer Center, Dr. Scott English and Vanderbilt Heart, Northside Medical, and Kay Wood.
