Janet Lee Leis, age 86, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Brethren Retirement Community.

She was born on November 1, 1939, in New Weston, Ohio, to the late John and Katherine (Hittle) Hartzell.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Jim" Leis, whom she married on January 11, 1958. Their marriage was one of devotion, love, and shared faith. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Hartzell and Elden Hartzell; sister, Marilyn Smith; and brother-in-law, Darrel Rowland.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Aliana (Bryan) Clymer and Cindy (Steve) Shoop; her brother, Stephen (Pam) Hartzell; her brother-in-law, Tom Smith; sister-in-law, Janet Rowland; grandchildren, Holly (Chad) Garrison and Brianne (Craig) Galloway; and great-grandchildren, Stella and Scarlett Garrison and Bohdi and Tate Galloway.

Janet was a woman of deep faith and service. Throughout her life, she was a member of Ansonia Church of God, Salem Church of God and Rossburg Methodist Church. She was actively involved in her churches, teaching Sunday School and participating in mission trips to areas affected by hurricanes and packing shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse to help those in need around the world. She also enjoyed the crafting events at Salem Church of God and faithfully served her community as a 4-H advisor.

Janet was known for her caring heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others. She was a wonderful cook, a devoted mother, and an incredible grandmother. Janet cooked for everyone, but most especially for those in need, always making sure no one went without a warm meal or a caring touch.

Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she poured her love into every moment she spent with them. Janet will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared so freely with everyone around her. She was thankful for every aspect of her life, always expressing gratitude for the knowledge she was given and for even the smallest kind words.

Janet was also known for lending her talents wherever they were needed, happily fixing and sewing anyone's ripped jeans, never hesitating to help in even the simplest ways.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Residence Fund. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and love to Michele, Janet's caregiver, and the entire staff at the Brethren Retirement Community for the compassion, kindness, and care they showed Janet.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM-12:00 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville.

A memorial service will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Carol McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.
