Janet Kay Cooper was born on February 17, 1942 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Donald & Beatrice (Hunter) Cooper. She married the love of her life, Ronald Lee McDowell on July 30, 1960 at Woburn Baptist Church; together they raised three children and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Janet was a licensed cosmetologist; owning and operating Jan's Cinderella Shop & Beauty Salon for nearly 30 years. Janet was very ornery yet compassionate. She was one of the most selfless women; always putting others first. She enjoyed many things in life. Janet loved shopping, playing cards, and flower gardening but, most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by her husband, Ronald McDowell of Vandalia; son, Todd McDowell & wife Christi of Vandalia; daughters, Kimberly Frederick & husband Bill of Washington, MO and Jana Shafer & husband Todd of Vandalia; grandchildren, Lyndsay Doehring & husband Billy, Adam Shafer, Tessa Gaffner & husband Nathan, Gage McDowell, and Jake McDowell; great-grandchildren, Macy, Jaida, Aleigh, Zayden, Kynlea, Kaiden, Landen, Dawsyn, Lucas, Amelia, and Liam; and a great-great-grandson, Dominic.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to send out a special Thank You to the staff at Fayette County Health Department Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care.
