Janet Ruth Meredith, age 70, of Avinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025. She was born on May 1, 1955, in Avinger, where she spent her childhood and attended Avinger School, where she was proud to serve as a cheerleader.
Janet dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a private hospice caregiver. Her compassion, strength, and gentle nature touched many families during difficult times. Outside of her work, she was a talented seamstress who found great joy in quilting and creating beautiful pieces for her loved ones. She was also known for her exceptional cooking-meals at her table were always filled with warmth and love. Janet had a deep love for animals and was especially devoted to her dog, Jessie, and her cat, Prince. But more than anything, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dan Meredith; her parents, Thurman Hershel Stroman and Joyce Laverne Cook; and her brother, Hershel Stroman.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Arthur Thomas Green II and wife Amber of Jenkins; Lacy Howe of Texarkana; Courtny Lacy of New Boston; Darren Meredith of Alpena, Michigan; and DJ Meredith of Jenkins. She is also survived by her siblings: Wayne Stroman of Avinger; Linda Flori and husband Robert of Ore City; Tonia Sauceda and husband Flo of Avinger; Barbie Golden and husband Steve of Avinger; and Elaine Roe and husband Lewis of Hughes Springs. Janet is lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025, at South Union Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Clark Cemetery.
Janet will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering love for her family.
