Janet was born February 9, 1949, in Hot Springs, SD to Earl and Mae Christensen. She was the second oldest of 4 children. She had many fond memories growing up on the family ranch, going on wagon trains and spending time in Cheyenne when her dad was in legislative session. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1967.
On November 4, 1967, she married the love of her life, Dave Shultz and were blessed with 54 years together before his passing in 2021. Together they had four children. The family traveled and lived all over including Wyoming, West Virginia, Montana, Colorado, California and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Through the years Janet was involved in many organizations and groups including Job’s Daughters, 4-H and her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. During her time in Brazil, she was a leader with the Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed her time as the band and color guard mom for her kids’ high school, where she was affectionately known as “Mama Schultz”. She was active in her church and bible studies and an avid quilter and seamstress and loved to knit and crochet. Janet worked as a receptionist before she retired, where her smile and warm demeanor was infectious and was loved by all who met her.
After retirement, you were sure to find her out playing a round or two of golf. She loved spending time on the course and encouraged many to come out and play. She led the women’s league at the Newcastle Country Club for many years. She enjoyed the comradery and time with her family and friends.
