MONROE TWP. — Janet Clarisse (Traver) Shalata, 86, of Monroe Township, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 at home.
Born in Luzerne, she was the daughter of the late Lambert H. Traver and Bertha (Sickler) Traver Smales. She was a 1953 graduate of the Beaumont school, where she played basketball.
In 1953, she married the love of her life, Joseph T. Shalata. They were married for 55 years until his passing in 2009. She worked for Reese's Florist and then was employed by Tyler in central supply until retirement in 2010. She loved cheering on her family at sporting events. Janet loved watching her birds, Heartland and the Hallmark Channel. Janet loved going shopping and out to lunch with her sisters, or with her best friend Jeanette Corby, spending time with her family or on the phone with her friend, Clifford Nulton.
Janet was a member of Bowman's Creek Free Methodist Church, accepting Jesus at 16. She lived the life of Christ by her love for people and supporting them with her generosity, with rides to doctor appointments or just to get out of the house. She taught Sunday School, was a leader in church programs, VBS and active in the Women's Ministry, Operation Christmas and many mission projects.
Janet is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Williams, Nancy Rosecrans and husband Brad; daughter-in-law Ellen Shalata; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Crispell and Sue Stockage and husband George; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law William and Lucy Shalata and Judy Field; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Lambert "Dutchie" Shalata; brothers-in-law Dana Field, Jim Koutnik, Larry Crispell, Thomas Shalata, Paul Thomas; sisters-in-law Phyllis Shalata, Annette Koutnik, and Joyce Thomas.
Family and friends are invited to attend Janet's funeral service, which will be held on Wednesday Feb. 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. from Bowman's Creek Free Methodist Church, 6470 PA-309, Monroe, PA 18657, with Pastor Lynn Mokwa presiding. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday Feb. 8, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday Feb. 9, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bowman's Creek Free Methodist Church or the Bowman's Creek Woman's Ministry, 6470 SR 309, Monroe Twp., PA 18657.
