Janet Lucile Slaven, 85, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
She was born on April 20, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late David A. and Irene A. (Taber) Reed.
Janet graduated from Howe High School in 1954.
She was working for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis when she met her future husband, John D. Slaven. They were united in marriage on January 9, 1960 at Downey Avenue Christian Church in Indianapolis. They were blessed with 61 wonderful years together.
Janet retired from Glen Acres Elementary School where she had worked as a secretary. She was a member of Friends of the Tippecanoe Library.
Janet enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, John D. Slaven of Lafayette; her children, John D. Slaven II of Martinsville, IN, Robert E. Slaven of Lafayette, and Julia (Charley) Knowles of Belleville, IL; her grandchildren, Katherine, Emily, and William; and her sister, Joan L. Mohler of Glenwood, IL and her family.
A Service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Meadow View Cemetery.
