Janet S. Stender, a dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 19, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 76. Born on October 13, 1948, in Greene, Iowa, Janet's life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication to family.
Janet was the daughter of John L. Balster and Helen Marie Sweeney. On September 30, 1967, Janet married Gerald L. Stender, and together they built a life together. She was a devoted wife until Gerald's passing, and her love for him remained strong throughout her life.
As a mother, Janet poured her heart into her children, Tina Williams and Terry Stender. Her love for her family was unwavering, even if her way of expressing it sometimes left room for interpretation. Janet had a special bond with her grandchildren: Johnathan (Kate), Amber (Dave), Joshua, Ryker, Patty, Kevin, Shawn, Keela (Jeffrey), and Domanic (Angela), who brought her immense joy and pride. She was also a proud great-grandmother to nine beautiful great-grandchildren, whose laughter and antics filled her heart with warmth.
Janet's professional life was dedicated to nurturing the next generation as a child daycare provider, where she touched the lives of many children and families. Her dedication to caring for others was evident in everything she did, from her work to her hobbies and interests. Janet enjoyed sewing, engaging in crafts, and was active in her church community, where she found joy and fulfillment.
Janet's strong spirit and loving nature were celebrated by all who knew her. Despite sometimes struggling to show her affection outwardly, her family always felt the depth of her love and commitment. Her legacy of love and care will remain in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Gerald. She leaves behind a family that will forever cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted.
A Visitation and funeral service to honor Janet's life will be held on July 25, 2025, at 1:00- 2:00 PM, the Funeral service beginning at 2:00pm, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes shared memories and stories that reflect Janet's spirit, which will continue through the love she instilled in those she held dear.
Janet S. Stender will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends.
