Urbanski Funeral Home - Secor LocationJanet Wozny Duszynski Stoeckley, 101 years old, of Monclova, passed away November 4, 2025, following a long, well-lived, gracious life. Born February 29, 1924, Janet took immense pride in being a “Leap Year Baby.” She was born in Chicago, IL and came to Toledo as a young child.
Janet graduated from Woodward High School in 1942 and was a proud and loyal Polar Bear. She loved school and belonged to several clubs, including the Polish Literary Society, the Periclean Literary Society, and the Girl's Athletic League. She was Feature Editor of the Tattler, the school newspaper. After graduation, Janet served on Woodward's Hall of Fame Committee for several years. She felt a special loyalty to it, because its membership worked diligently to award scholarships to deserving, graduating seniors. Janet received a silver medallion, as an honorary inductee into the Hall of Fame, in 2024.
When Janet lived in the “Old North End,” she was an active member of the Lagrange community and worked to support local libraries. She was instrumental in establishing the Lagrange Branch Library and was a strong advocate for community programs.
After high school, while her fiancé, Walter Duszynski, served overseas during World War II, she worked for the Army and Navy Department as a civilian employee. After the war, in May 1946, the couple married and, as time progressed, they became the parents of four daughters. Walter died in 1964, at the young age of 44.
Following a crash course in medical terminology, Janet worked at Toledo Hospital in Medical Records. She also worked at Bridal Aisle; at Willys-Overland, in the old Administration Building; and at the Toledo Clinic. In 1969, she began work at the then Medical College of Ohio at Toledo (MCOT), as Curriculum Secretary. It was the same year the college accepted its first class of medical students. Janet felt working with the students was extremely rewarding, and she was often honorably mentioned at their graduation ceremonies. Janet retired from MCOT after 17 years of service.
While a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Point Place, her Pastor gave her permission to form a group for widowed church members. It did not take long to discover they all liked traveling, and Janet conducted tours to Chicago, Toronto, and the Rose Bowl game in California. The group also enjoyed taking repeat theater tours to New York City and joined with another parish on trips to Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Hawaii.
Janet married Toledoan John Stoeckley in 1986. Like her first husband, John was a special gentleman. Sadly, he passed away after only three years of marriage.
In 1995 Janet moved to Sylvania, OH, and became a faithful and active member of Christ the King Parish. She was a HUGE Duke basketball fan, a proud owner of a Coach K bobblehead, and was a jigsaw puzzle devotee (Only 300 pieces, please)!
In 2024, her family had a special 100-year celebration, which Janet relished greatly. She enjoyed telling everyone she was “only twenty-five" and was featured on CH13 local news. The video is still accessible online, at https://www.13abc.com/2024/03/01/monclova-woman-celebrates-25th-or-100th-birthday-leap-day/
Preceding Janet in death were her parents, Pauline and Leo Wozny, her brothers Edwin and Ray, and her sisters Alice Godlewski and Dolores Duszynski.
Surviving are her daughters Cathleen Heidelberg, of Columbus, OH, Carol Farmer and Jean Haynes (Tony), both of Toledo, OH, and Lou (Laurie) Busey, of Asheville, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2025, from 4pm until 8pm, at Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd, Toledo, OH. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30pm. A time of sharing will be included during the prayer service for those who wish to speak and share memories.
On Saturday, November 22, 2025, the family will greet attendees from 10am until 10:30am, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH. The Funeral Mass will begin in the church at 10:30am. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, on Parkside Blvd, will be private.
The family would like to thank Ashanti Hospice for their services and support; the Staff at Otterbein Monclova Senior Life, where Janet lived since 2018; Urbanski Funeral Home; and Christ the King Catholic Church.
