Janet Lois Thompson

Janet Lois Thompson, 82, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 25, 1943, in Paragould, Arkansas. Janet was the daughter of Donald Janes and Ruth Shoultz Janes, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, John Henry Shoultz and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Morgan, who played a formative role in her life.

Janet devoted her life to caring for others. She was a devoted housewife and the loving caregiver to her four children, while steadfastly supporting her husband through 44 years of employment with General Motors. Her life was marked by quiet strength, sacrifice, and deep love for her family.

She found joy in the outdoors, especially gardening, and took great pleasure in nurturing both plants and people. Caring for others was her passion-family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need felt her warmth and compassion. Janet was a devout Christian whose faith guided her daily life; she was a faithful witness for Christ through both her words and her deeds.

Above all, Janet cherished her family. She was deeply devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her legacy of love and service will live on through them.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Freddie E. Thompson; three sons, Keith Thompson (Judy), Kevin Thompson (Paula), and Michael Thompson (Pam); and one daughter, Jennifer Parrott (Stephen). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Janet was an active member of her church and a dedicated member of the Joy Makers organization, where she helped bring care, comfort, and encouragement to home-bound elders.

Funeral services will be held at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Burial will follow at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Warren County.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
