Janet Morris Williams
Janet Morris Williams was born on August 21, 1934, in Portage, Utah. She died on February 1, 2023, in Brigham City,
Utah, of natural causes surrounded by her loving family.
Janet was the second of two children born to Arthur Edwin and Oreta Pearl Hawks. She spent her early years in Portage, Utah, living with her Grandma and Grandpa Hawks. She had a very special relationship with them. She later moved to Brigham City with her mother and step-father, Morris Kent Lee. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1952. After graduation she moved to Ogden, where she met and fell in love with her eternal companion Leland Williams.
She worked as a secretary at Johnson Insurance Agency. She also worked at Box Elder School District as a secretary at Lincoln Elementary School and for the transportation office.
Her greatest legacy was the happy family she built with her husband Lee. They were married for 69 years and enjoyed raising a wonderful family of 6 children and 3 Indian Placement foster children. The most important thing in her life was the love for her family, having family gatherings for all the holidays and making friends wherever she went. Her special gift was making everyone feel like they were her best friend or favorite person. She loved poetry and writing personalized poems to friends and loved ones, even up to the last months of her life.
She loved to watch her kids' and grandkids' sporting events. She was an avid Utah Jazz and BYU fan. She also loved bird-watching and loved all birds of prey, especially owls.
Janet served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorites were serving at the county jail, the Addiction Recovery Program, as stake missionaries and at the Bishop's storehouse. She loved her mission in the Palmyra area (Rochester, New York Mission) where she and Lee served at church history sites, the Hill Cumorah pageant and with the many people in the Batavia area. She was grateful that all her children and many grandchildren visited while they were serving there.
Janet loved participating in local plays in her earlier years. She also loved writing and directing road shows with her best friend, Jerry Velasquez.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother and father, step-father, husband, Leland and 3 siblings (Jerry Morris, Douglas Lee and Rebecca Lee), daughters (Terri Lynn Williams and Jana Lee Williams Armstrong), foster son (Charles Manuel Rodriquez), and 3 great-grandchildren (London Miller, Brooklyn Williams and Cooper Armstrong).
Janet is survived by her children: Brian & Machiel Williams, Todd & Alison Williams, Brad & Robin Williams, Tammy & Kirk Morgan, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Lee.
The family would like to express thanks to the Gables Assisted Living and Aegis Hospice for their loving care.
A viewing will be held at Gilles Funeral Chapel on February 26 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Viewing will also be held at the Brigham City 15th Ward on February 27 from 10:00-10:45 am. Services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
