Janet F. Winstead, 79, of Owensboro passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 12, 1942, to the late Samuel Norwood Knight and Velma Grisham Knight. She spent most of her young adult life and raised her children in Sebree, Kentucky. Later, she moved to Madisonville, Kentucky, where she was employed by Madisonville Regional Medical Center and number of other places. Janet was a hard worker and almost always worked at least a couple jobs at a time. She relocated to Owensboro in recent years to be close to her daughter and family. Janet loved people and never met a stranger. She had a good sense of humor and her friendliness served her well in her different vocations whether as a hairdresser, bookkeeper, or helping people at One Park Place or Clark's Health and Nutrition Center. Janet's ancestry came partly from the Cherokee nation and expressed itself in her interest in native American history and décor. In addition to her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Winstead in 2014; and two brothers, Ben, and Dan Knight. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Stacy Hendricks and husband Jeff of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Aubry and Makenna Hendricks of Owensboro, Lauren Powell (Paul) and Kayla Winstead of Mobile, Alabama; six great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Brooks of Lewisville, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kim Winstead of Bayou La Batre, Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and her special Yorkie Terrier Mix, Sunshine. A memorial service for Janet Winstead will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Church for All. Visitation will be from 2 to 3pm at the church. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to her beloved church: Church for All, 400 E. 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42303 or 1faithfellowship.com. Sis. Janet is one of my favorite parishioners of all time. Her smile is infectious. She's a hugger too. Every time I pronounced her name wrong (Jeanette instead of Janet), she took exception to it and corrected me promptly, even giving me a brief coaching session that required feedback from me on how to say her name right. Janet is friendly, loyal, and very hardworking. I am missing her already, though I know, based on the hope that comes from our faith, that she is more alive than ever in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sis. Janet, you are pain-free now; enjoy unbroken peace with the King!

I am so sorry to hear about your mama. I have nothing but good memories of her from when we were growing up in Sebree. I remember meeting you and her at a local Henderson restaurant once when my babies were babies. She was such a sweet person! Sending lots of hugs and hope for some peace and comfort.

I'll miss you my sweet sister from another mother. I'll miss giggling with you, praying with you and holding your hand in church sometimes. Thank you for loving me. You'll alway have a piece of my heart. I promise I will always hug you with my heart and share those with Stacy whenever she needs a hug. I'll miss you.
