Janet R. Young

Janet R. Young, formerly of Duluth, passed away at the age of 90 on October 30, 2023. Janet was born on August 11, 1933, to William Sr. and Mabel (Dixon) Reynolds in Superior, WI.

She graduated from Superior East High School and Superior State Teacher's College with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Music and Art. Janet taught First Grade in Racine, WI and Minneapolis in the late 1950's.

She was introduced to her husband of 62 years, Allen A. Young, DDS, on a blind date. When he proposed, Allen said "marry me and you'll always be Young!". Janet and Allen were enthusiastic residents of Duluth for all of those 60-plus years. Janet was a community leader and organizer volunteering with the Junior League of Duluth, PEO, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (DSSO), Boys and Girls Club, Northland and Ridgeview Country Clubs, Lakeside Presbyterian church and Northwood's Children's Home. Janet was employed as Director of Public Relations for the Duluth Clinic. She was also publisher for the very first visitors guide for Spirit Mountain called "The Ski Spirit".

Music was important throughout Janet's life, whether it was the lead role in musicals in high school and college, accompanying the family sing-a-longs of Christmas carols, or attending the DSSO on New Year's Eve. Her love of music was passed down to her daughters and grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her daughters: Nancy (Thomas) Caswell, Minneapolis, Jane (David) Sjogren, Eagan, Mary (Michael) Rohweder, Champlin; her grandchildren Allen Tessmer, Laura (Anthony) Satnik, Robert Tessmer, Jackson (Rochelle) Rohweder, and Alec Rohweder; her brother Edward (Linda) Reynolds, San Diego, plus, many nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbors. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Allen and her siblings Ruth Reynolds, Carol Halverson and William J. Reynolds, Jr.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Friday, December 8 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4430 McCulloch Street, Duluth. Reception to immediately follow at The Boat Club Restaurant at Fitger's (Harborview Room), 600 E Superior St. Duluth. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Brighton Hospice and Lexington Pointe Senior Living who took such good care of their loving mother in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to DSSO or donor's choice.
