Janet Audrey Olson Ziegenfus, née Nelson, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, in
Burke, Virginia. Born on March 26, 1928, in Jamestown, New York, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family, faith, and love of music.
Janet was born in Jamestown, NY and spent her early years in
Ridgway, PA before graduating from Ridgway High School. She later pursued further education at Northampton County Community College, reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth. She was a dedicated educator in the head start and reading programs at the Northampton Area School District.
Throughout her life, Janet found joy in many pursuits. A gifted pianist with a deep appreciation for music, she often filled her home and church with melodies that brought comfort and inspiration to those around her. Her involvement in church activities was a cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ, she contributed not only through music but also through active participation in the spiritual community that meant so much to her.
Family was central to Janet's heart. She was the proud mother of Karen Holmes, Kurt Olson (Leslie), and Kevin Olson (Sophie). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Benjamin Holmes (Julie Sheetz), Isaac Olson, Noah Olson, Eric Olson, Sarah Olson (Alex Rogers), and Rebecca Short (Gabriel) and great-granddaughter Blair Sheetz Holmes. Each generation carries forward the values she held dear: kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of connection.
Janet was preceded in death by her first husband, David G. Olson, and later by her second husband, Robert Ziegenfus. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her-from family members who cherished her wisdom and warmth to friends who shared in her musical gifts and spiritual fellowship. May Janet's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any gifts you wish to send be made in Janet's memory to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 8142 Valley View Road, Northampton, PA 18067 or the
