Janice Burmeister Obituary

Atlantic formerly of Storm Lake - Janice Rae Burmeister, 91, of Atlantic, and formerly of Elgin, died May 22, 2025 at Tabitha Health Care Services in Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, May 27 at 2 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Janice Rae Myers was born Oct. 2, 1933 in Storm Lake, the daughter of Herbert Truman and Anna Catherine (Schaefer) Myers. Growing up, Janice attended school in Storm Lake where she graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1951.
Following high school graduation, she attended St. Joseph where she graduated in 1955 as a Med Tech. In 1956, she graduated from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Later she attended Drake University where she earned a degree in teaching along with many years of continuing education.
On Aug. 26, 1956, Janice was united in marriage to Richard E. Burmeister at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with three children: Myers, Tracy and Robin.
Janice was known for her volunteer work, receiving the Silver Star Award for Senior Health Volunteer on May 23, 2006 by the Department of Elder Affairs. She then received the Governors Volunteer Award for SHIP by Governor Chet Culver on October 7, 2007.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery and crossword puzzles. She also had a passion for reading. Janice loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Janice was fond of watches and purses and beautiful jewelry. Travelling was a highlight of Janice's life having traveled to: Denmark, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Norway, Finland, Germany, Hawaii and Cancun Mexico. Family was very important to Janice and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Myers (Ina) Burmeister of Atlantic; Tracy Burmeister of Lincoln, Neb.; Robin Martin (Thomas) of Elgin; grandchildren: Matthew Lauer (Dianna Garcia), Jana Chiles (Curt), Katie Bohall (Frank), Chloe Dorn (Josh), MacKensi Mull (Colin Perkins), Brandi Brockob, Justine Caras (Beau), Heather Davis (Brandon), Mariah Martin (Nick Castillo), Ben Martin (Bailey), Lance Ohmeiss; great grandchildren: Hunter Chiles, Starr Brockob, Kaiya Molyneux, Bella Brockob, Gunner Davis, Mila Davis, Nelly Caras, Maddie Davis, Henry Caras, Adalyn Bohall, Bear Davis, Ivan Castillo, Owen Martin, Oliver Martin; extended family: sisters-in-law: Shirley Burmeister and Carol Medina; brother-in-law, Fred Burmeister; many other family and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Anna Myers; husband, Richard Burmeister; great grandson, Leo Martin; mother and father-in-law, George and Linda Burmeister; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Burmeister and June Burmeister; brothers-in-law: Gordon Burmeister, Don Burmeister and Armando Medina.

Jan was the lab manager at Central Community Hospital for many years. She was such a great mentor for me when I first started as lab tech 25 years ago. She was even known as to kick chemistry machine when it wasn´t working. Rest in peace Jan.
