Obituary published on Legacy.com by Van Orsdel Funeral & Cremation Services - Kendall from Nov. 15 to Nov. 18, 2025.
Janice Burt Cramer, formerly known as Janice Amber Burt, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 in her beloved hometown of
Miami, Florida. A woman of extraordinary warmth, humor, and quiet strength, Janice lived a life filled with purpose, joy, and deep devotion to the people she loved.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Burt, her mother, Rose Burt, and her sister, Carol Burt. She is survived by her husband, Ed; her son Burt and his wife Christina; her son Jim and his wife Monica; and her cherished grandchildren Jazmyn, Noah, and Bodi, who brought endless joy to her life and adored every moment spent with their grandmother.
To know Janice was to know kindness. Her nurturing spirit, patience, and friendly nature drew people in effortlessly. Always ready with a gentle word, a bright smile, or a joke to lighten the moment, she made every space feel welcoming. Adventurous at heart, Janice embraced life fully whether she was traveling, discovering new music, or simply enjoying a day with her family. Her hands were rarely still, always crafting something beautiful through needlepoint, solving puzzles with determination, baking treats for loved ones, or turning the pages of a good book. She had a deep love for traditions, especially during Christmas and Thanksgiving, and delighted in sending White House Christmas ornaments each year to friends and family. Proud of her Hispanic heritage, she carried her culture and family history with grace and joy.
Children held a special place in Janice's heart. She had a tender way with them, understanding their feelings and nurturing their imaginations. Her grandchildren adored her-constantly hoping to be near her-and she served as a true mentor in their lives, guiding them with wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. As a mom, she was the most loving woman her sons had ever known. She taught them quietly and consistently, always ready to encourage, comfort, or offer knowledge to help them understand the world.
To her husband, she was loyal, honorable, and endlessly supportive. A classy lady in every sense, Janice's love was steady, reassuring, and lifelong-an anchor through every chapter they shared together.
Janice also carried with her a treasure chest of memorable quirks and stories. She was famously unafraid to pick up frogs and toads, often surprising those around her. She once won a radio contest on WGBS as the lucky caller, taking home a $1,000 prize. She was also known as the life of the party, remembered fondly for leading the twist and shout at a company Christmas celebration getting everyone on their feet and laughing.
Her favorite reminder to others was simple but true: "Don't worry, be happy."
Her sense of duty and dedication extended well beyond her family life. Janice proudly served with the United States Secret Service for 29 years, beginning her career as a clerk typist in 1987 and retiring in 2015 as the administrative officer of the Miami field office. She was deeply respected by her colleagues, admired for her professionalism, integrity, and willingness to go above and beyond.
Whether attending political conventions, traveling to field offices around the world, or guiding her team through complex assignments, she worked tirelessly to ensure success. Her ability to finish what she started-no matter how demanding-was one of her defining traits.
Spiritual in her own unique and personal way, Janice lived a life guided by gratitude, love, and quiet reflection. She embraced every opportunity for joy and never passed up a chance for a good time, cherishing the moments that brought people together.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication-a life beautifully lived and deeply cherished. Her impact on her family, friends, coworkers, and all who crossed her path will remain forever in their hearts.
She will be missed beyond measure, remembered always, and loved forever.
