Nora Janice Finley, of the Mooresville community, affectionately known as "Tiny Tank" and “Tib,” passed away on September 22, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 6, 1935, Janice spent her life as a testament to strength and resilience, overcoming health challenges with a determined spirit. A proud Christian and devoted member of the Baptist faith, she embodied the virtues of hard work, independence, and determination.
Janice was a beloved mother and grandmother, leaving behind her cherished daughter, Terry Brooks, and son, Stephen Finley (Ashley), along with her daughter-in-law, Pam Finley. She also leaves a legacy through her grandchildren, Beth Hensley (Daniel), Erika Finley, David Brooks, Daniel Brooks (Keri), Derek Brooks (Alli), Avery Roberts, and Skyler Finley, and her adored great-grandchildren, Raylee Hensley and Benton Brooks. Janice is survived by her sister, Wilma Kate Raley, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins who will dearly miss her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Shafter and Birtie Mae Minor Shaw; her husband, Bobby Gene Finley; her son, Bobby Michael Finley; her brother, Rev. Donnie Shaw; and her sister, Georgie Riley.
Janice had a passion for family, often bringing them together through her love of cooking and sewing. She found her greatest joy in the simplicity of life on the farm, where she cherished every moment spent milking cows alongside her husband. Her unwavering love for the land and the animals defined her spirit and instilled a sense of peace. She had a deep appreciation for Bluegrass music, which filled her home with joy and laughter.
Funeral services to honor Janice's life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home and will take place Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will resume Friday, September 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be immediately after the service at Friendship Cemetery. David Brooks, Daniel Brooks, Derek Brooks, Adam Richardson, Roger Griggs, and Daniel Hensley will serve as pallbearers.
