Hancock, Janice Irene (Foreman) “The Queen of Hill Valley”, 91, passed away on Friday August 22, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Born April 27, 1934, Newton Hamilton, daughter of the late Robert B. and Catharine (Rogers) Foreman. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald B. Hancock, whom she married on May 5, 1956, at the Lovely Lane Methodist Church in Baltimore Maryland. Also preceded by a sister, Arlene Beatty. Survived by children, Lionel “Zeb” Hancock and wife, Charlotte; Cathy Goss and husband, Brad; and Kim Scott and husband, Dave; 9 grandchildren, Brandye Armstrong and husband, Perry “Rabbit”; Kelly Thomas and husband, Michael; Brittany Krietz and husband, Adam; Stacy Book and husband, Heath; Brian Scott and wife, Ashley; Christina Scott; Ashley Joyce and husband, Patrick; Casey Peppard and wife, Leah; and Nakisha Hicks and husband, Blair; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hancock graduated from Captain Jack Joint High School in 1952 before graduating from the Polyclinic School of Nursing in 1955. Mrs. Hancock’s nursing career consisted of operating room, maternity and for 26 years with the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a community health nurse. She received the Brace for an Ace Award in 1970, Pennsylvania Department of Health Employee of the Year Award in 1984, and Outstanding Staff Nurse Award from the Pennsylvania Nurses Association in 1984. Mrs. Hancock was a past member and volunteer for the Huntingdon County Cancer Society, past board member and health safety instructor for the Mount Union Red Cross, former board member of the Shirley Home for the Aged, and served on various committees. She was a member of the Singer’s Gap Independent Church where she was a past choir member and Sunday School Teacher. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and kind nature. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends, entertaining at her pool, and being “Grammy Janice” to many outside of her family. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday August 26, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Mount Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Singer’s Gap Independent Church, 16290 Hill Valley Rd, Mt Union, PA 17066; or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
