Janice Wheeler Hogan, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Richmond, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on March 6, 1937, in
Cooper, Texas, Janice was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Janice was the daughter of Olen Calvin Wheeler and Alma Castin (Millard) Wheeler. She grew up in
Cooper, Texas, and was a proud graduate of Birdville High School, class of 1955. After completing her education, she embarked on a journey that would take her through various cities, including Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Port Arthur, and New Orleans, where she embraced new experiences and formed lasting connections.
On August 1, 1959, Janice married the love of her life, Joe Ray Hogan, in Fort Worth, Texas. Together, they built a loving home and raised two wonderful children, Mark and Michele. Janice's dedication to her family was evident in everything she did; she cherished the moments spent with her children, her son-in-law, Daniel Nelson, her granddaughter, Nicole Hogan, and her great-grandsons, Pete Wheatley and Kaden Martinez.
Janice was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe, who passed away on January 17, 2022, and her dear sister, Barbara Hilderbrand. Despite these losses, Janice's spirit remained vibrant, and she continued to be a source of strength and inspiration for her family.
Known for her unwavering kindness, Janice had a natural gift for making others feel welcome. Her warm personality drew people to her, and she possessed exceptional organizational skills that made every gathering she hosted a special occasion. Janice enjoyed cooking, sewing, scrapbooking, and writing. She had a deep appreciation for nature and loved spending time outdoors, often capturing the beauty around her through photography. Her hobbies were a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her desire to create cherished memories with loved ones.
Janice's life will be celebrated on December 7, 2025, at 1:30 PM at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. C. McAllister "Mac" Vaughn. Her family invites all those who knew and loved her to join in honoring her remarkable life. A graveside service will follow on December 9, 2025, at 1:30 PM in Oaklawn Cemetery in
Cooper, Texas.
Janice's loving spirit will forever be remembered and cherished by her family: son Mark Hogan, daughter Michele Hogan, son-in-law Daniel Nelson, granddaughter Nicole Hogan, and great-grandsons Pete Wheatley and Kaden Martinez. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and beautiful memories that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Janice's memory to the Medical Benevolence Foundation, honoring her lifelong commitment to family and community. Pallbearers for the service will include Mark Hogan, Daniel Nelson, Ron Thurman, and Brad Thurman.
As we say goodbye to Janice, we remember her warm smile, her generous heart, and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Though she may be gone from our sight, she will forever remain in our hearts.
